Now at full bore on Alpha Development
So, I quit my job and am now developing OmniGameZ full time. It has become the Alpha and Omega of my days! Already 18 months in, OGZ is gathering steam. However, it’s not just about developing the software, it’s about a myriad of parts that all need to come together (database, assets library, web presence, licence management etc etc etc). Server upgrades, MySQL + Php updates, new hard drives have become my daily grind, challenge and frustrations!
However, it’s on track and I’m really looking forward to sharing it with you all. Say “hi” in the forums in the meantime and let me know anything you’d like to see in its development. This is meant to be about users getting what they want in a front end – so let me know!
It’s been quite a journey that all started with writing batch scripts to “make me emulators work, like.” I effectively wrote my first front end in batch (a valiant first effort – albeit one that was held together with spit and chewing gum). I wish I’d have listened to people back then advising me to learn a “proper language.” However, I was determined and I finished it, having to leverage a third party app to present a GUI to feed back to the script.
In time, I progressively learned other languages and my next major piece was a GameEx plugin that extended its capabilities. Following that, came another extending Headkaze’s excellent CPWizard to also run with emulators. In between this time, I wrote a few others apps all related to retro gaming. However, with tedious inevitability, I finally threw in the towel and decided to develop my own front end. Which leads us here to today…
